Ice Cream on Kent Island

Kent Island loves Ice Cream!

July 18th is National Ice Cream Day and this is one day I will definitely be participating in this year by visiting one of Kent Island’s spots!

Did you know back in 1984, President Reagan designated July as National Ice Cream Month and the third Sunday of the month is National Ice Cream Day.

So where are the best places to go on Kent Island to find ice cream? Here are some of our reader’s favorite places.

The Top 4 Places for Ice Cream on Kent Island

1. Tasty Toucan

Located in downtown Stevensville, Tasty Toucan makes handmade ice cream AND fruit pops. Not only do they offer homemade treats with the best ingredients, but they also have both indoor and outdoor seating and their outdoor space is unlike any other on Kent Island! Customer favorites include the 6 or 12 pack samplers, “fundaes,” and homemade waffle cones. Even better, Tasty Toucan’s colorful atmosphere features fun games for the family including checkers and giant Jenga!

2. Dessert First

Dessert First is located in the Kent Narrows, in the shops by Harris’ Crab House, and serves Hershey’s Ice Cream. Not only do they serve ice cream, but they also have smoothies, pastries, and coffee. What’s unique about this spot? You can sit on the dock by the water across from Kent Island and enjoy your sweet treat!

3. Sweet Frog

So it’s not quite ice cream but it is still cold and sweet. Part of the national chain, Sweet Frog is located near Red Apple Plaza in Chester and serves frozen yogurt. They now have dairy-free options and rotate featured flavors. Don’t forget you can choose from a unique offering of toppings to create your own masterpiece.

4. The famous  “Homemade Nutty Buddy”

This special cone gets its own spot on the list. Locally made, the huge “nutty buddy” has become a Kent Island favorite, especially in the Kent Narrows. The nutty buddy is made from multiple scoops of smooth vanilla ice cream in a cone, dipped in chocolate, and then covered in nuts. Harris’ Crab House and Fisherman’s Crab Deck both offer this local delicacy.
