What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re hibernating at home?
Kathy Higginbotham: On a snow day, I like to cook all the foods all day, especially a big pot of chili or hearty soup. My family likes to play board games. Or my favorite is to plan a warm vacation!
Tara Trout: Sip on a cup of hot chocolate while watching a Hallmark movie or Netflix series! I especially love this on a snow day (im hoping for one big one this winter!)
How do you create a warm and inviting atmosphere in your living space?
Kathy: Pillows and rugs are my favorite accessories to create warmth. The best part is that you can change them out seasonally and create a whole new look/feel!
Tara: Dim the lights, turn on the fireplace, light some candles and snuggle with a blanket!
What books, movies, or TV shows are on your must-watch or must-read list this winter?
Kathy: I am not a huge TV watcher, but get sucked into Love in Blind. I just finished Unreasonable Hospitality and am obsessed! Eating dinner at East Madison Park is now on my bucket list!
Tara: Unreasonable Hospitality is on my book reading list this winter as I’m gearing up for a successful 2024!
Do you have any favorite winter comfort foods or recipes that you love to prepare?
Kathy: I make a mozzarella stuffed meatloaf or a big pot roast when I need comfort food!
Tara: I love making a pot of chili on a cold and/or rainy day. Or sometimes I like to cook up some homemade sauce for spaghetti and meatballs – its something my mom always did growing up so it also gives me a warm, home feeling!
How do you prioritize self-care during the winter hibernation period?
Kathy: When it is dark and cold, I have realized that I need to do all self-care first thing in the morning. If not, I just loose all energy when the sun goes down. And, I keep my routine of taking one day each month to CELEBRATE by giving thanks for the last 30 days and doing some of my favorite things – yoga, pie & prosecco!
Tara: I like to make some time for myself at night. Sometimes it’s reading a book, sometimes it’s taking a hot bath, sometimes it’s binging a netflix series – just some time to unwind. I also love getting massages as part of my self care but sometimes I fall off the wagon in actually keeping up regularly. So, I’ll buy a package to help me stay on it!!
