Best Crab Houses on Kent Island

We asked the locals which are the best crab houses on Kent Island and the votes are in…

When we asked the Kent Island locals what they like to do in August, it was an overwhelming response of “EAT CRABS!!” and what do us locals get asked all the time?? Where is the best place to get crabs? So join us as we dive into the best crab houses on Kent Island.

Crabs are not just a delicacy, but a tradition. If you grew up here, you know Summertime means crabs. Whether you are going out to a crab house or sitting out back at Aunt Holly’s house, crabs are an event. An event where you line the tables with craft or the Sunday paper, get out the carvel hall crab knives, a couple of mallets, maybe some drawn butter, vinegar, and old bay spice, a roll of paper towels, sit down with good friends, and family and get to work! The messier you get, the better! I never trust a clean crab eater! Be on the lookout for a future blog with tips on how to eat Maryland crabs.

Crabs have a special way of bringing people together. Stories are shared, laughs are had and memories are made when you are picking crabs. It is no wonder that many organizations have crab feasts as fundraising events.

QAC Not My Child

A local non-profit, Not My Child QAC is hosting its first crab event, Carson Freedman Crab Feast & Cornhole Tournament on August 21, 2021, at the Kent Island Volunteer Firehouse. Not My Child QAC’s mission is to support opioid awareness and prevention activities in Queen Anne’s County, Maryland, and provide assistance to individuals recovering and families who have lost a loved one. I spoke to Lori, Carson’s mom and she shared with me that Carson was a commercial crabber. They had a family tradition of picking crabs and playing cornhole, so putting this event together is absolutely an event her son would love and it is also therapeutic for her.
